How wealth tax works in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan has no broad recurring net wealth tax on an individual's total net worth. Bank balances, portfolios, private company shares and other assets are not taxed each year merely because they form part of a personal balance sheet.
That does not mean assets are tax-neutral. Azerbaijan levies property tax and land tax, and legal entities generally pay property tax at 1% of the average annual book value of taxable property. For individuals, building property tax is generally based on area and location, with residential tax applying only to area exceeding 30 square metres.

Watch out for
- "No wealth tax" is not the same as "no asset taxes"; property tax and land tax can apply to real estate and land.
- Foreign tax residence can still expose an Azerbaijan resident or asset owner to reporting or taxation elsewhere.
- Real estate transfers can involve notary fees and sale duties even though Azerbaijan does not levy a broad net worth tax.
