Payroll social tax is generally collected at 20% from employers and 2% from employees.

Tajikistan also has VAT, excise taxes, land and property taxes, mineral resource taxes, simplified regimes and withholding taxes on investment income.

Watch out for

  • Tajikistan tax rates changed under the Tax Code effective from 2022, and some older online summaries still show pre-reform VAT, PIT or corporate tax rates.
  • VAT is 14% from 1 January 2024 through 31 December 2026, with a further reduction to 13% scheduled from 1 January 2027.
  • Payroll cost is material. Employers generally pay 20% social tax on payroll, while employees generally contribute 2%.
  • Tajikistan is not on the FATF February 2026 grey list, but banks can still apply detailed source-of-funds and beneficial ownership checks.

Frequently asked questions

Is Tajikistan a low-tax country?

Tajikistan has moderate statutory rates, including 12% on qualifying resident main-job income, a general 15% rate for other individual taxable income, 18% general corporate income tax and 14% VAT in 2026. Payroll social tax, withholding tax, property tax and sector taxes can materially increase the effective burden.

Which taxes apply in Tajikistan?

Key Tajikistan taxes include personal income tax, corporate income tax, VAT, social tax, excise taxes, land and immovable property taxes, mineral resource taxes, customs duties and withholding taxes on dividends, interest, royalties and some service payments.

Is Tajikistan good for expats and founders?

Tajikistan can be relevant for founders or expats with real local operations, employees, customers or manufacturing activity. It is not usually a simple zero-tax relocation jurisdiction because residents can be taxed on worldwide income and companies must manage VAT, payroll and local compliance.
